Whatever you heard back before you arrived in the country about the pass times, this is the time to witness yourself the dark times. We will visit Toul Sleng S-21 Genocide museum, a testament to the crimes of the Khmer Rouge. In 1975, Tuol Svay Prey High School was taken over by Pol Pot’s security force and turned into a prison known as Security Prison 21 (S-21). It soon became the largest such center of detention and torture in the country. We include the audio set for you in different language available for you to have an in-depth info on this site.
Between 1975 and 1978 about 17,000 men, women, children and infants who had been detained and tortured at S-21 were transported to the extermination camp of Choeung Ek. It is a peaceful place today, where visitors can learn of the horrors that unfolded here decades ago.
Back to Phnom Penh and enjoy a Cambodia set lunch, our picked on some of the best local gourmet. After lunch, we will visit the Independence Monument, an Angkorian style tower located in the heart of the capital. Next, we will go to the National Museum. If you have been traveling from Siem Reap, the exhibits will resonate more once you’re able to mentally place them. That said, with as many as 14,000 different pieces on show or in storage below, it’s still a wonderful way to to come to understand some of the scale of what was achieved during the Khmer Empire in particular.
Next, we will go for 2 hours river cruise with BBQ buffet prepared fresh on the boat. Free sunset cocktail and live traditional music on boat accompany your journey.
