A spectacular sight to behold, Beng Mealea, located about 68km from Siem Reap, is one of the most mysterious temples at Angkor, as nature has well and truly run riot. Exploring this titanic of temples, built to the same floorplan as Angkor Wat, is the ultimate Indiana Jones experience. Built in the 12th century under Suryavarman II, Beng Mealea is enclosed by a massive moat measuring 1.2km by 900m. Enjoy your packed lunch in the car before the next venture at the lake.
Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages of stilted houses built within the floodplain of Tonle Sap about 16 km southeast of Siem Reap. Kompong Phluk is accessible by boat only and we will cruise the lake with Cambodia traditional boat. Kompong Phluk is a relatively small village that provides very good insight into the village lifestyle of the Tonle Sap. This village exists almost exclusively on fishing and related activities. Houses are built on stilts up to 10 m high, and the village is surrounded by flooded forest. As opposed to the Chong Kneas floating village, it’s a different experience. Upon entering the Tonle Sap Lake basin, we will stopover at the flooded forest. Change to a local long tail boat where the local will help you on paddle, sit back, relax and make sure to get a lot of cool shots in this venue.
