Day 1 - Luang Prabang > Ban Nong Touk> Ban Long Lao
We leave Luang Prabang at 8:30 and drive through a beautiful countryside to Ban Nong Touk Here we spend some time to learn about life in the rural lowland Lao and Khmu communities before setting off trekking! The trek leads us firstly through rice paddies and pineapple plantations before entering the dense jungle which is home to a remarkable diversity of tree species!
After two hours of hiking we reach the first peak of the mountain range where we stop for a while to enjoy the great views of the surrounding landscape and enjoy a local style picnic lunch. As we continue onwards we soon reach another peak before the trail begins to head downwards in to the forest where is home to a vast selection of different species!
The last leg of the day is one and half hours walk to Ban Long Lao which is where we stay overnight. Here you have the opportunity to get a real insight into the culture of the two ethnic minorities (Hmong and Khmu) who live here together in harmony.
Approximately: 1 hours driving, 6.5 hours trekking
Day 2 - Ban Long Lao > Kuang Xi Waterfall > Luang Prabang
After breakfast we follow a trail into some steep sections of the forest. Along the way we explore a cave which was used as an improvised bomb shelter by the locals during the second indochina war.
Continuing onwards from the cave one more hour of trekking brings us to one of the springs that feeds Kuang Xi, here a beautiful pool full of sacred fish can be found. After descending from the top of the waterfall we enjoy a Lao style picnic lunch next to the spring of Kuang xi.
After lunch, we continue for another 45 minutes to the falls and spend sometimes bathing and relaxing by the turquoise pools below the waterfall. It is worth a visit to the nearby bear rescue center which is home to bears which are cared for after being rescued from bile farms and wildlife traffickers. Before returning back to Luang Prabang we take a short walk to nearby village of Ban Thapene which is a Khmu village that lies nestled around some of the most beautiful pools of Tad Kuang Xi.
